Steve Espaillat, Co-Founder & Global Sports Head
Steve Espaillat, co-founder of iconic32 Sports Lab, is a certified educator and a Certified Performance Trainer (CPT) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He is responsible for overseeing the Athletic Training Programs and Education components by integrating his extensive contacts in those arenas to strategically bring together resources from the sports, entertainment, and academia worlds. Steve has also organized community initiatives with other organizations, schools, corporate sponsors, and political officials to help raise community awareness. Steve started his career as an educator; teaching, coaching and counseling on all academic levels, including the University Level. Through his leadership and dedication, he has established himself as a positive influence in the lives of his students, athletes, and his colleagues. Steve Espaillat graduated from St. John’s University with a B.S. in Business Management in 1998 and a Masters degree in Education in 2002.
Sergio H. Morales, Co-Founder
Sergio Morales, co-founder of iconic32 Sports Lab, is the creative branding director and strategic partner for iconic32 Sports Lab. Sergio is responsible for sparking authentic interactions and conversations that connects the athletes to the public through his innovative storytelling approach. Sergio also runs the consumer and sports marketing practices at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, where he constructs communications platforms for a range of global consumer and sports brands. He is also a partner at Orpheus Films, a renowned independent film production company based in NYC. Orpheus has casted and produced several award-winning films such as Maria Full of Grace and Girlfight. Sergio received a B.S. in Marketing and International Business from St. John’s University in 1996. He also studied in Budapest, Hungary at Technical University for one undergraduate semester. In 2001, he received an MBA in Marketing and International Business from St. John’s University.
Felipe Lopez, Co-Founder
Former NBA player and current NBA Cares Ambassador, Felipe Lopez oversees partnership development with iconic32 Sports Lab. Felipe Lopez is a former National Basketball Association player, and one of the three current distinguished ambassadors for the NBA’s philanthropic effort, the NBA Cares, alongside Bob Lanier and Dikembe Mutumbo. In May 2011, Felipe was hired by legendary University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari to serve on his coaching staff (along with Rod Strickland and former NBA Coach Del Harris) for the Dominican national basketball team. Felipe was a standout national basketball player and is still recognized as one of the most accomplished high school players of all time.
Rene R. Rodriguez, Head Trainer and Performance Specialist
Rene Rodriguez is a certified Fitness and Performance Specialist (ISSA) and is responsible for designing the Athletic Training Programs for the athletes, as well as working closely with the Network of Health Practitioners to appropriately keep the athletes on the field and performing at optimum levels. A trainer since 2002, Rene has worked with hundreds of clients in several continents, including the Dominican Republic and Australia. He has also trained with professional and elite high school athletes across the country, including Junior PGA phenom, Kyra Cox.
Jeovani Paredes, Soccer Academy Director
Coach Paredes is the Director of our Soccer Academy and currently the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach at Francis Lewis High School, which he has built into a Top Ranked Soccer program in New York State. He is a former Division I Soccer Player at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY and was team captain at Holy Cross High School. Coach Parades was recognized as one of the top players in the youth premier leagues, including regional premier league, Super Y League, and Eastern New York ODP. He has a Bachelor’s in Physical Education and his goal is to continue to develop character, discipline and success for all student athletes that are looking to pursue Athletics in College.
Evander Ford, Life Skills Talent Specialist
Coach Evander Ford heads the life skills training component, which seeks to effectively improve the athletes’ intelligence on any playing field, and to apply these life skill techniques off the court. He is one of the most renowned basketball trainers and has trained many successful basketball players including Jamal Mashburn, Elton Brand, Stephon Marbury, Walter Berry, Sebastian Telfair, Rik Smits and Ben Gordon, among countless others.
Jaimie Uva, Nutritionist
Jaimie Uva, RD, CDN, serves as a member of the Nutritionists in Aids Care, Sports Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition Practice Group, Food and Culinary Professionals Practice Group and has worked in collaboration with multiple fitness magazines. She is currently developing a comprehensive nutritional program for the participants in iconic32 Sports Lab.
